CityWell is a fully affirming community for LGBTQ+ people and their families. We affirm same-sex relationships and marriage, and we fully welcome people of all gender identities and expressions into our community — into fellowship, service, and leadership.
We know that many LGBTQ+ people have been profoundly hurt by the church. We do not take that lightly. If you've been told by a church community that you are less-than, unwanted, or broken because of who you are — we are deeply sorry. That is not the message of Jesus, and it is not the message of CityWell.
The God we worship is the God who says, "Come, all you who are thirsty." That invitation is for you, too. Not after you've changed. Not conditionally. Now, as you are, fully as you are.
We want to be specific and clear because vague statements of "welcome" have too often been used to mask conditional acceptance. So: LGBTQ+ people are welcome to attend, to be baptized, to take communion, to serve in any capacity, to lead in any role, and to have their families and relationships celebrated here. There is no asterisk on your belonging.
"There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus."
— Galatians 3:28
If you have questions, doubts, or just want to talk — our pastors are available and would love to meet with you. The conversation doesn't have to be heavy. You're also welcome to simply show up on a Sunday and experience the community for yourself.
We believe that love is not a theological compromise. Love is the theology.
